EUR/USD has traced a steep descending channel throughout September, carving a series of lower highs and lower lows that has driven price from the 1.1650 region down to yesterday's close at 1.1392. The dominant trendline connecting the 21 August high at 1.1712 and the 10 September peak at 1.1643 defines the upper boundary of this channel and has capped every rally attempt over the past month. A parallel support line drawn from the 17 September low at 1.1457 through the 24 September trough at 1.1360 marks the lower boundary; price has now tested that floor twice in five sessions, each time finding buyers willing to defend the zone.
The 20-day range of 1.1654 down to 1.1360 captures the full scope of the sell-off, while the five-day moving average at 1.1433 sits well below the twenty-day average at 1.1546, confirming that momentum remains bearish on the intermediate timeframe. Yet the fourteen-period RSI has collapsed to 13.31, a level that historically signals exhaustion rather than continuation. ATR at 0.0054 shows volatility remains elevated, typical of a market searching for equilibrium after a sharp move. The 20-day low at 1.1360 now serves as primary support; a daily close beneath that threshold would negate the oversold-bounce thesis and open the door to deeper losses.
We see an oversold bounce setup forming here. With RSI in single-digit territory by some reckonings and price sitting just 30 pips above the lower channel line, the risk-reward favours a counter-trend long from current levels around 1.1392. Immediate resistance lies at 1.1470, the mid-September consolidation shelf, and our target sits at 1.1500, roughly halfway back toward the descending trendline overhead. Entry at 1.1392 with a stop beneath 1.1330 offers a defined 62-pip risk against a 108-pip reward to target. This is a tactical trade, not a trend reversal call; we expect the broader downtrend to reassert itself unless bulls can reclaim 1.1550 and hold it on a closing basis. A failure to bounce from 1.1360 or a break of the stop at 1.1330 would invalidate the setup and likely accelerate selling toward 1.1300.
