Resistance Descending channel resistance
This falling resistance connects the August and September highs, capping every rally attempt within the four-week downtrend.
Anchors: 2026-08-20 @ 1.1711 → 2026-09-10 @ 1.1643
EUR/USD has carved out a clear descending channel over the past four weeks, with price respecting a falling resistance line that connects the 20 August high at 1.1711 and the 10 September peak at 1.1643. The parallel support boundary of this channel runs through the 14 September low at 1.1524 and arrives today near 1.1431, precisely where the 20-day low sits. This channel has contained every swing since late August, and price is now testing its lower edge for the third time in ten days.
The pair closed yesterday at 1.1451, just 20 pips above that channel support and the 20-day low of 1.1431. RSI14 has dropped to 26, the most oversold reading in this data set, while price trades well below both the 5-day SMA at 1.1468 and the 20-day SMA at 1.1573. ATR14 stands at 0.0045, roughly 45 pips, confirming that recent volatility remains moderate and that any bounce has room to develop without excessive whipsaw risk.
Resistance overhead is layered: the first meaningful ceiling lies at 1.1540, the mid-September consolidation zone and the approximate midpoint of the channel. Above that, the 5-day SMA at 1.1468 will act as dynamic resistance on any initial recovery. The descending channel resistance trendline, currently near 1.1620, represents the upper boundary should momentum accelerate.
We see a tactical buy opportunity here. Entry at 1.1451 targets the 1.1540 resistance, a gain of roughly 90 pips, with a stop-loss at 1.1410 to guard against a breakdown below both channel support and the 20-day low. The oversold bounce setup depends on the 1.1431 level holding; a daily close beneath 1.1410 would signal that sellers have overwhelmed the channel structure and that further downside toward 1.1380 or lower is likely. Until that occurs, the risk-reward favours a mean-reversion trade back toward the channel midpoint.
